Social Life
Erdemir, with its employees and their families is a family of nearly 30,000 people and gives great importance to social needs of the employees and their families. Social facilities such as nearly 1,200 company-housing complex, guest houses, restaurants, cinemas, beach, open swimming pool, sports facilities and day nursery are for social needs of Erdemir family. Through the health centre, which has provided services as private health organization, internal medicine, pediatric, dentistry, x-ray and biochemistry services have been delivered to the employees and their families. Also studies are making to prevent work accidents and occupational illnesses. Within the scope of preventive medicine, vaccination campaigns have been organized for influenza and hepatitis B.
ERDEMIR Foundation which is an aid organization, secures the savings of its employees through professional finance services on its portfolio which is formed of employee fees and employer contributions, and helps ERDEMIR pensioners by giving them the opportunity to withdraw their pension entitlements either as lump-sum payments or monthly installments.

Contribution to the Society
In order to contribute to the economic and social development of our country, since its establishment, ERDEMIR has been continuing to increasingly perform all the social and cultural activities with its consciousness of social responsibility, giving precedence to Eregli and its surroundings.

Istihdam politikasina bagli olarak, bolgeden gelen taleplere oncelik verilmektedir. Yaklasik 2 milyon ton/yil duzeyindeki celik urunlerin yurt ici karayolu sevkiyati, genellikle Kdz.Eregli ve cevresindeki nakliye firmalari tarafindan yurutulmektedir.

ERDEMIR attaches great importance to contributing to social life, which is important for being a modern company and its role is prominent in its contributions to employment and national economy and its investments made in the health sector.

ERDEMIR, in parallel to its leading position in the steel sector, takes the leading role and sets an example in meeting social needs with its important activities in education, health, culture, art and sports. The dispatch of approximately 2 million tons/year steel products livens up the transportation sector in the region. ERDEMIR gives priority to domestic suppliers both in the purchasing of materials and spare parts needed for maintenance and repair activities and in the production of machinery and equipment required for the investment projects.

The educational organizations in the region are supported for the purpose of providing young and dynamic human resources to follow and improve the technologies, which are in continuous progress. Within the frame of University - Industry co-operation, joint studies are carried on together with Zonguldak Karaelmas University, Istanbul Technical University and TUBITAK aiming to support scientific and technical developments in regional and national perspective.

ERDEMIR, which has made important contributions to the construction of Karadeniz Eregli Anadolu High School and TED College Foundation Intermediary and High Schools and in providing the continuation of services, had had the Erdemir and Cumhuriyet Primary Schools re-built in a suitable structure for 8-year education system. All the repair & maintenance services and daily meals of Eregli Girl Cultivation Dormitory are provided by ERDEMIR. The professional knowledge and experience of Industrial Profession & Trade High Schools', Occupational High Schools, and University's students are supported by giving them training opportunities. Supported construction of "Business Centre & Social Facilities", which will serve computer, accountancy and English courses to Eregli Physical Handicap Association's 423 members.

ERDEMIR also satisfies the major portion of water need of the city. Environmental improvement activities are performed around dams and beach areas and 60,000 trees planted. Joined the campaign "10 billion oak seeds sowing" to afforest the region.
Emergency rescue teams, machinery and health services are provided during the earthquake disasters occurred in our country and by means of a campaign 1 trillion TL collected to help the people. By contributing the laying of Izmit- Eregli natural gas pipeline created benefit for established industrial facilities and residents of Adapazari, Duzce and Eregli. ERDEMIR, maintaining monetary donations to campaigns performed by regional state entities and the entities like "Mehmetcik Foundation", "Eregli Education Foundation" TEMA Foundation, Education Voluntary Foundation etc., and blood donation campaigns performed by the Red Crescent are supported voluntarily and widely by our workers. ERDEMIR, which has medical oxygen filling licensee, is maintaining oxygen requirements of regional health organizations free of charge.

ERDEMIR which made its principle the leadership of national development, is serving to all universities, state entities, libraries, its employees, retired employees, customers and media by means of published books on Culture Series, Management Series, Science & Technology Series which are contributed to the Turkish publication environment, and the by means of ERDEMIR Magazine published bimonthly 10,000 piece and monthly ERDEMIR Newspaper. It is offering its social and sporting facilities to the usage of various institutions for conferences, panels, exhibitions, and similar social and sportive activities.

Information and experiences are shared by contributing to various panels, conferences and conversations, etc. It is tried to control the fires that occur in the region in co-operation with fire brigade.

The volleyball and basketball teams in the Turkish League and other sports activities make contribution to the promotion of the region.

ERDEMIR is also the main sponsor of the "International Eregli Ottoman Strawberry Cultural Festival".

ERDEMIR will continue to take active part in all social, cultural and sports activities organized in co-operation with the institutions in the region with its social responsibility consciousness.
