Over the past 60 years since its establishment, Erdemir has not only become one of the pioneers of the iron and steel sector but has also made significant contributions to the Turkish economy through its production, exports, investments, and job creation.
Accelerated investments following its integration into OYAK
Following its integration into the OYAK Group in 2006, Erdemir accelerated its investments and transformation efforts. Today, it operates with a production capacity of approximately 4 million tons of crude steel and 5 million tons of finished products. Currently, Erdemir operates through its subsidiaries: İsdemir, Erdemir Mining, Erdemir Steel Service Center, Erdemir Engineering, Erdemir Romania, Kümaş Magnesite, Erdemir Energy, Erdemir Asia Pacific, and İsdemir Linde Gas Joint Venture. Erdemir is active in the production of flat and long steel products, steel service center services, mining, industrial gas production, engineering, project management, and energy sectors.
Aiming to achieve net zero emissions by 2050
Erdemir is working towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050 under its Net Zero Roadmap, which outlines its steps toward green transformation. Erdemir plans to reduce carbon emissions per ton by 25% by 2030 and by 40% by 2040 compared to its base year of 2022. The Net Zero Roadmap reflects not only Erdemir's environmental responsibilities but also its economic and social sustainability goals.
Providing employment for over 12,000 people
As one of the largest employers in Turkish industry, Erdemir provides job opportunities for over 12,000 people, with more than 6,000 direct employees in Karadeniz Ereğli alone, including its subsidiaries. Erdemir plays a significant role in the development of the Ereğli region and serves as the lifeblood of the local economy.
